David Gianotten
David Gianotten is the Managing Partner – Architect of OMA. He oversees the overall organizational and financial management, business strategy, and growth of OMA in all markets, in addition to his own architectural portfolio.
David currently leads the design and construction of projects in different regions, including Museo Egizio 2024 in Turin; Amsterdam’s Bajes Kwartier – the conversion of a large 1960s prison complex into a new neighborhood with 1,350 apartments; VDMA – the transformation of an unused site with industrial heritage in Eindhoven into a mixed-use urban hub; the new Koepel District – renovation of Breda's Panopticon and Judicial Compound into a mixed-use area; the Innovation Partnership Schools in Amsterdam; and the Metropolitan Village – a high-rise residential building in Taipei. David is responsible for the design and realization of the AIR Circular Campus and Cooking Club in Singapore (2024); Apollolaan 171 – a high-end office building in Amsterdam (2023); the Taipei Performing Arts Center (2022); Potato Head Studios – a resort in Bali (2020); WA Museum Boola Bardip in Perth (2020); Prince Plaza in Shenzhen (2020); White Cube LIRCAEI in Lusanga (2018); and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange headquarters (2013). He was responsible for the end stages of the CCTV headquarters in Beijing (2012).
David has co-curated the N*thing is Possible exhibition at the Singapore Design Centre in 2022. Projects led by David have been published worldwide and received awards, including the Architectural Digest 2020 Great Design Awards, the Australian Institute of Architects Western Australian Chapter Awards 2021, the 2017 Melbourne Design Awards, and the CTBUH Awards 2013. David lectures around the world on topics including the future of the architectural profession, the role of context in projects, and speed and risk in architecture.
David joined OMA in 2008, launched OMA’s Hong Kong office in 2009, and became partner in 2010. He led OMA’s portfolio in the Asia-Pacific region for seven years. In 2015, he returned to the Netherlands to oversee OMA globally as Managing Partner – Architect. Before joining OMA, he was the Principal Architect at SeARCH in the Netherlands. David has taught extensively at the Architectural Urban Design and Engineering department at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where he is a graduate.
