Southwest International Ethnic Cultural Centre
Yunnan is a province in China known for ethnic diversity. Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan, is a historic cultural and commercial node in southwest Asia, having over 20 different ethnic groups, including Yi, Hui, and Bai. Many of the groups live on both sides of the borders between China and Myanmmar, Laos and Vietnam, sharing dialects, rituals and culture. Kunming's Southwest International Ethnic Cultural Art Communication Centre is a new facility dedicated to strengthening this rich cultural diversity through preservation, education, consolidation and communication. Situated in one of Kunming's new towns, the project aims to create an open and vital public realm, merging the Centre's activities with the daily life of the surrounding community.
